Teaching guitar to fellow students is usually something that people love because they have a passion for playing the guitar and music. You do not usually need a teaching qualification but you obviously do require some level of mastery of your instrument. Ok, so this is what you need to do to start you own teach guitar business:
1. Advertise your services in the local newspaper.
2. Put adverts up in your local newsagents.
3. Get some students and then you will automatically build a buzz and word of mouth.
4. When you have received some requests, find the right time for a lesson to suit both you and the student.
5. Have a guitar and an amplifier.
6. talk to your student about their playing ability and ask your student what he/she can play.
7. Start to teach guitar by showing scales slowly Pentatonic Scales and Major Scales are the two main ones.
8. Also, start by showing chords FROM the level the student is at and then as the student to play these chords.
9. Explain the theory related to any chords and scales. This is very important!
10. Give the student some notes at the end of the lesson to take home and practice
11. Ask he/she when would you like to return for your next lesson
12. Charge the student usually about £10-£15 for a half hour lesson and £20-£25 for a full hour lesson.
Always try to keep the student as long as possible and that is by giving them great tuition!
